Vancouver 2010 mascot Miga hits the Mall

I shot this 3D rendition of Miga at the Pacific Centre mall. I am not much of a mascot fan but like the 2010 ones. This execution was very well done I though. The only lame thing that I saw was the 3D trademark near his foot.

The 2010 Olympic Jaypiddy Photo Blog

Join me as I document  the 2010 Olympics from the downtown streets of Vancouver. I don’t have any specific photo plans as of yet but I imagine those will present themselves during the games. My photography is usually much in the moment and I suspect there will be quite a few that make their way [...]

Photo of the Day – Lost in thought – Oahu

This shot is from our trip to Oahu in 2007 on the east side of the island at the Kualoa Ranch jeep tours. They are not actually jeeps but rather ex Swiss Army six wheel drives that were actually pretty cool. The tour goes through the Ka’a’awa Valley where Jurassic Park, Windtalkers, You, Me & Dupree, [...]

Photo of the Day – Crab Man at Pike Place Market

Last Memorial Day I took the family to Seattle on a bit of a whim. We hit the Woodlands Park zoo and then went downtown. When we were at the Pike Place Market this old guy in a uniform just walked up and grabbed a crab out of the tank and started waving it at [...]

Photo of the Day – Valencia’s Opera House

The city of Valencia has an opera house that rivals that of Sidney without a doubt. In fact it is the 3rd largest opera house in the world after Metropolitan Opera House in New York City and Chicago’s Civic Opera Theatre. The Valencia Opera House [Queen Sofia Palace of the Arts] is located on a dry [...]

I think Bob Ross would have loved HDR Photography

I know Bob Ross had millions of fans and inspired armies of people to paint happy little clouds with oil on canvas but his technique was never really considered to be classic oil painting as such. As Bob said many times “…in your world you can paint any colour that makes you happy.” I guess the [...]

Walt Disney World – A Home Movie Extravaganza!

Well I pushed both our old Samsung point and shoot camera’s SD video capabilities and iMovie’s distaste for 1st gen Macbook Pro’s with only 2 gigs of RAM to the limit! None the less, I have edited together just over 17 minutes of a very home style movie that did not deviate at all from [...]

Photo of the Day – Winter Branches at English Bay

I shot this in between the massive days of rain why had this month. I like the slight blur that the Hipstamatic app added to the shot. For some reason I love the way leafless tree look on “film”. Camera – iPhone App – Hipstamatic Photo Credit © 2004 JP Holecka

Photo of the Day – The Ascent

It had been raining for days and the fear I was that it was going to dump down the wet stuff for Noah’s second ski lesson at the Grouse Mountain Ski Wee Camp. As luck would have it the skies opened up and the sun peaked out just in time for his day on the [...]

Picture of the Day – Cadaques in the morning

This was shot early morning in the Spanish town of Cadaques near the French border. The picturesque town is one where Dali used to vacation as a boy and then later on returned and painted many non-surreal paintings. This is where we spent our last days on our trek through Spain and can’t recommend it [...]
