Obituary for my Mum – Jacqueline Gore
Surrounded by the love of her family in a quiet room high above the city, Jacqueline Irene Gore’s spirit moved from this realm into the next in the early morning hours of Wednesday, May 11th. Jackie was born near London, England on April 24th, 1944. As a young child she spent time in both England [...]
Photo of the Day – Freighters at Sunset
I shot this one a few weeks ago from the terrace on our apartment rooftop. The forrest fire smoke was making the sunsets particularly vibrant that week. Camera Canon EOS 10D Exposure 0.004 sec (1/250) Aperture f/13.0 Focal Length 50 mm ISO Speed 400
Downtown Crackles with Excitement with just 5 days to Go!
Here is what the downtown core looks like with just 5 days left until the games. There are tons of international athletes already wondering the streets in uniform and getting their pictures taken by the locals and tourists alike. In fact I ran into CTV Newsnet anchor Tom Clark at Japadog too and he informed me [...]
Theeey’re heeer….NBC arrives with the remotes.
This is the first time I have noticed the official Olympic US Network here in Vancouver. It almost looked like the many movie sets around town where we put stickers like this to masqueraded as a US city. Not this time though the big cock is in town for real. I did notice that they [...]
Vancouver 2010 mascot Miga hits the Mall
I shot this 3D rendition of Miga at the Pacific Centre mall. I am not much of a mascot fan but like the 2010 ones. This execution was very well done I though. The only lame thing that I saw was the 3D trademark near his foot.
Photo of the Day – Winter Branches at English Bay
I shot this in between the massive days of rain why had this month. I like the slight blur that the Hipstamatic app added to the shot. For some reason I love the way leafless tree look on “film”. Camera – iPhone App – Hipstamatic Photo Credit © 2004 JP Holecka
Photo of the Day – The Ascent
It had been raining for days and the fear I was that it was going to dump down the wet stuff for Noah’s second ski lesson at the Grouse Mountain Ski Wee Camp. As luck would have it the skies opened up and the sun peaked out just in time for his day on the [...]
Photo of the day – X-mas Tree on Lost Lagoon
I shot this photo around this time last year. It had been just as cold and then wham! It dumped a huge amount of snow on us. I walked down the just as the snow had finished and snapped this. It’s actually a composite of a few different exposures. Not HDR but layered and manually [...]
Photo of the Day – Mother’s Day 2009
After the day spent at the Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary wandering around enjoying mothers day in the country we made our way over to Commercial Drive for a friends art show opening. After the show Denise took Noah to the playground and I made my pilgrimage to the Santa Barbara Deli. It is by far [...]
Photo of the Day – Thunderbird is go!
On my way to pick up groceries yesterday afternoon I spotted this relic from the past. It’s a mid 70′s Ford Thunderbird that really shows the true essence of a bloated ara. Big hair, bigger ties and rediculasly big cars were the order of the day. I have a fondess of that time, but no [...]
